Planned to do some work in the morning/early afternoon, then go for a quick
sail once the tide had dropped. Wind filled in big style around 1pm so sped
through what I was doing, had lunch, and drove to King Alfred's, via work
to print off some papers.
Arrived 3pm. Windy, sunny, wavey, too good to be true? Yep. 4.5 weather for
about 20 mins. Very nice first run out and back, caught a nice wave
backside coming back in. Then it all went wrong. Wind started dropping,
shorebreak munched me a couple of times, and then on about my third run
out, looked over my back shoulder and some seriously dirty black clouds
were heading Hove-wards. Oh sh*t.
With the lightening kicking off to the west, blobbed back in as fast as is
poss when underpowered on a 75L wave board against a dying veering offshore
wind and a beastly downwind rip. Was grateful just to make it back to the
beach, despite being a good 5 minute walk-of-shame from my launch point.
That's the second time exactly the same thing has happened to me at Hove. I
never have a good sail there. I think it's jinxed for me there, yet just
down the road at Shoreham my sessions are normally good. A bit like
Calshot/Lepe for me last year. At least I got out today though, unlike
Basher, Garethh and Billyboy who all turned up too late.
